Trigenics® is a neuro-kinetic, sensorimotor assessment, treatment and training system,
which instantly relieves pain and increases strength and movement.

Patients are interactive participants

Trigenics patients are interactive participants in their own treatments, both mentally and physically. This means that with Trigenics results depend upon the patient engaging voluntary movements in very specific ways and directions against the doctors resistance to generate neurological reflexes which cause changes in their brain wave patterns.

Utilizing modern neurology

Trigenics utilizes modern western medical knowledge of neurology. By using the principles of reflexogenic neurophysiology, the “hardwiring” of the patient’s own body is being utilized as an integral part of the treatment and allows for a number of other positive benefits. Simply stated, Trigenics procedures cause firing of spontaneous reflexes, which are generated by the patient’s own nervous system.

A multimodal treatment system

Trigenics is a “multimodal” treatment system. This means that Trigenics is unique in that it combines a number of different treatment “techniques” which are applied at the same time to gain a much greater effect than that which would be achieved by only applying one. Trigenics, itself, is not a treatment technique. It is a total full body assessment and treatment “system”.

Deeper penetration

A Trigenics Practitioner can effectively penetrate deeper into the patient’s tissue than other traditional manual methods such as Massage, Shiatsu, Trigger Point therapy, etc. The “blocking” of pain signals enables the Trigenics Practitioner to achieve this deeper penetration without the strong reactionary “jump response” commonly elicited with other therapies.s.

The complex procedures used in Trigenics® retrain the way the brain communicates its movement and/or pain signals with the muscles of the body.
The treatments are either manual or involve the use of instruments or exercise equipment. The beneficial effects are instantaneous and seen immediately.
If Trigenics® is what they need, patients having suffered from physical pain syndromes and/or movement dysfunctions always see strikingly measurable results on their first visit to a Trigenics® practitioner. This will be the case; no matter how long they have had the condition and attended other therapies or how many doctors or therapists they have seen. Strength trainers using Trigenics® Power Augmentation training procedures on their clients see an unprecedented acceleration of muscle strength and size without drugs.
Trigenics® is primarily used by specially trained manual medicine physicians such as osteopathic and chiropractic doctors as well as physiotherapists and elite licensed massage therapists. Personal fitness or athletic trainers as well as professional coaches also use specific variations of Trigenics® for full-body comprehensive muscular activity assessments and/or correction of imbalanced pull patterns and biomechanics as well as neurokinetic retraining. Trigenics® myoneural exercises are prescribed by Trigenics® practitioners and trainers in accordance with each client’s or patient’s individual specific requirements. Athletes receiving Trigenics® immediately prior or during training or competition also experience instantaneous increases in strength and flexibility for immediate enhanced performance. Doctors, therapists, and trainers often work together as a team on client or patient cases to provide full comprehensive treatment, training, rehabilitation, and performance augmentation care.

HISTORY OF TRIGENICS®

DrOOLOHistorically, Trigenics® was first in the world to combine simultaneous muscle treatment with resisted exercise.
In the early 1980’s Canadian-Estonian Chiropractor / Osteopath, Dr Allan Oolo Austin (DO, DC, MND, CCSP, CCRD, RTCMP, CFIS, PhD), developed and began to work with the concept of combining trigger point therapy with patient movement. Clinical results using this concept were notably better than normal. In the early 1990’s he discovered that the simultaneous application of a specific combination of neuromuscular treatment techniques produced a significant amplification of the normal therapeutic effect on his patients for a wide range of neuro-musculoskeletal and soft tissue conditions. The results were much better and longer lasting than with other manual treatments in providing the patient with immediate significant pain relief along with increased strength and range of motion. He referred to this multimodal neuro-summative treatment method as “Trigenics” to denote its 3 main components.
The name “Trigenics” was derived from the three major technique elements comprising the unique multi-modal procedures: Neurogenics (resistive exercise reflexes), Myogenics (muscle nerve sensor manipulation) and Autogenics (concentrative parasympathetic breathing). It is hypothesized that it is the result of these simultaneously applied elements and their sub-elements which create an overload accentuated bombardment of reflexive sensorimotor input that instantly resets the way the brain sends contraction messages to the muscles and tendons. Dr. Oolo Austin has aptly defined this cumulative effect on the part of the nervous system which controls movement as “Therapeutic Neurosummation.” This is the cornerstone of Trigenics®.
By 1994, Dr. Oolo Austin had refined the Trigenics® multi-modal procedures and developed a system of assessing neurological muscle function so that the cause of neuromusculoskeletal conditions could be pin-pointed and effective treatment could be provided. Procedural and practical theory manuals were written and in 1998 and he created the International Institute of Trigenics® with the intent of teaching Trigenics® to other practitioners. Since then Trigenics® has been instructed to over 2000 Registered Trigenics® Practitioners (RTPs) from 25 countries worldwide including medical doctors, chiropractors, osteopaths, naturopaths, physiotherapists, athletic therapists and specialized nurse practitioners.
For the first 10 years, Trigenics® was only taught to doctors, therapists and health practitioners. In 2009, Dr. Oolo Austin began teaching a curriculum program at Tallinn University, Department of Health and Sports Sciences to trainers and coaches. In this course, modifications were made to Trigenics® for trainers involving simplified mono-modal, rather than multi-modal, procedures which were also effective in beneficially changing muscle behaviour. Due to the success of this course and the superlative enhancements experienced with Trigenics® care in athletic performance, a modified Trigenics® and procedures course, known as the Certified Trigenics® Trainer (CTT) program was developed. The CTT program is taught in the gym setting using exercise equipment. It is designed to teach elite personal trainers and coaches how to identify and correct functional muscle imbalances, prevent injury and increase training performance. The CTT program also serves to bridge the gap between trainers/coaches and health practitioners.

HISTORY OF TRIGENICS®-Technology meets Muscle Neurology

Trigenics® works by combining 3 treatment techniques which are applied at the same time for a therapeutic synergistic effect on the nervous system which is much greater than if you only applied one.

The 3 components are:
1. Resistive exercise neurology
2. Muscle nerve-sensor stimulation
3. Bio-feedback breathing

During a Trigenics® treatment, the doctor or therapist applies treatment to the muscle nerve-sensors while the patient performs specific resisted movement and breathing exercises. Trigenics® is unique in that it is able to help identify these abnormal muscle signalling patterns using specific and simple muscle strength and length testing procedures and myoneural mapping. As well it provides innovative corrective nerve sensor treatment and training procedures using advanced principles in muscle neurology and neuroplasticity.

Your brain sends signals throughout your nervous system through all parts of your body including your muscles. When tendons, muscle or ligaments suffer dammage, stress or injury their nerve sensors (aka proprioceptors) stop sending proper messages to the brain (known as neurological inhibition, “NI”) causing the sensation of pain. “NI” may not always be immediately noticeable, but the brain eventually then sends improper controlling signals and the muscles and tendons experiences a state of neurological dysfunction, leading to weak links and abnormal muscle pull patterns in the movement chain causing imbalances and dysfunctional joint motion. This results in chronic pain and injury or decreased training and athletic performance. Patients are interactive participants rather than passive recipients in the treatment process. Trigenics® is widely versatile in its applications and patient base. Clinical evidence and multiple case studies by graduates of the Trigenics® program indicate that, with successive treatments, the enhanced effects are sustained, cumulative, and augmentative. Trigenics® has also been developed to include a complete neurological exercise, fitness and self-care system. An extensive book has been written for the public on self-Trigenics with a publisher currently being sought. Because Trigenics® is so frequently effective with conditions that cannot successfully be treated by other traditional and non-traditional methodologies, we consider Trigenics® to be the single most advanced and effective manual treatment system for pain relief and functional restoration available in the world.
